Spanish photographer Dani Guindo has built his practice around Iceland’s raw landscapes since relocating to Reykjavík in 2016, where the nation’s dramatic geology and northern light continue to fuel his creative vision. In his latest series, Terminus, Guindo explores unique relationships between light, form, and atmosphere through dramatic aerial perspectives captured by drone technology. This approach enables him to discover patterns invisible from ground level, transforming Iceland’s glacial terrain into compositions that oscillate between documentary photography and abstract visual art. His fascination stems from how constant changes in light, weather, and seasons transform identical locations into entirely new scenes, creating an inexhaustible source of photographic material.

The Terminus series focuses on Múlajökull, a surge-type glacier characterized by alternating periods of ice flow and retreat. This distinctive behavior has revealed a drumlin field consisting of over fifty elongated hills formed beneath flowing glaciers, creating a valuable site for scientists studying how these features grow and evolve. Guindo’s photographs capture numerous rivulets amid rocky terrain alongside a ghostly, rounded outline revealing evidence of the glacier’s earlier phases, while colorful lakes filling depressions between drumlins display varying hues from different sediment concentrations. The photographer notes that Múlajökull’s isolation, surrounded by chaotic rivers and marshlands, makes a foot approach nearly impossible, requiring precise wind conditions to fly his drone close enough for capturing these images. Through his specialized skills in aerial photography and location scouting, Guindo transforms Iceland’s glacial geography into haunting visual narratives that document both geological phenomena and the ephemeral beauty of a changing climate.
