Baroque paper wigs: splendid paper art by Asya Kozina

The ornate clothes and wigs of the 17th and 18th centuries are famous for their beauty, luxury, and also eccentricity (at least, seen through our temporal prism).

Seeking to capture the essence of Rococo and Baroque styles, imagining how these garments and accessories would be produced with contemporary cultural and technological elements, St. Petersburg-based Ukrainian artist Asya Kozina recreates them in stunning series, illustrating the exuberant beauty of this fusion. Everything is done with paper clippings. Exotic flowers, planes, buildings, and other anachronistic objects adorn her pieces.

Historical wigs always fascinated me, especially the Baroque era. This is art for art’s sake aesthetics for aesthetics, no practical sense. But they are beautiful. I made a series of wigs. Paper helps to highlight in this case the main form and not be obsessed with unnecessary details.
