Body language: meaningful wire and concrete sculptures of children and their emotions by Lene Kilde

Inspired by children and their emotions, Norwegian artist Lene Kilde creates sculptures that capture their body language. Under her gaze, bodily manifestations represent the purest form of communication for the little ones.

For this, Kilde uses a few parts of the body in the structure of his pieces made of wire mesh and concrete, usually just the hands and/or feet. As a result, she obtains ethereal sculptures that seem to dissolve in the air. The artist’s intention is not to suggest anything, but to invite the viewer to exercise their own imagination, completing the missing parts, mentally filling in the lines and volumes.

Lene Kilde creates sculptures inspired by children and their emotions. She finds that children’s body language is their purest form of communication. This is visualized by showing very few body parts, usually only hands and feet, which then are placed in proportion to each other with the use of metal mesh. Her intention is to invite the audience to use their own imagination so that they can complete the sculptures and fill in the lines and volume by themselves. The sculptures consist of concrete, metal mesh, and air.
