Gorgeous ceramic vases inspired by European and Japanese botany by Hitomi Hosono

London-based artist Hitomi Hosono creates fascinating ceramic vases merging European and Japanese botany, resulting in a delicate, intricate, and unique style.

My ceramics experience is rooted in both Japanese and European traditions. Before arriving in UK, I studied Kutani Pottery in Kanazawa city in Japan as well as ceramics product design in Copenhagen, Denmark. The subjects of my current porcelain work are shapes inspired by leaves and flowers. I study botanical forms in the garden. I find myself drawn to the intricacy of plants, examining the veins of a leaf, how its edges are shaped, the layering of a flower’s petals. I look, I touch, I draw.
